Nail Varnish of the Week

Feelin' a bit grey with all the finals, and the end being near! So…..

A little grey, a little sparkle.

It is another Nina's Ultra Pro color (I seem to have a lot of them…?)

This lovely grey is color "Ink-ling" by Nina's. It goes on so smoothly and if you let it dry, it actually makes a wonderful nail color!

So it is safe to say I am in love with this color. #HeartEyesEmoji

Stay Sparkly (with a bit of grey) Babes!

Over? So Soon?

I graduate on the 26th. Like, I am done all my formal education….bye elementary school, middle school, high school, and now college. Personally, I feel like where my career is (hopefully) headed, I don't need graduate school quite yet. So that means, I'm done.

I'm done.

W.T.F.

I am writing this at 2am so I can schedule it because I still find it so important to stick to a schedule. I have less than 2 weeks and the amount of work I have to finish, is insane. And I have to pack up my apartment? And apply for jobs? And accept that my sister won't be attending my graduation? I think that is the hardest part of all of this. But I know, it is for her best. My best is that I finished these four insane years and her best is now in high school, doing a sport she loves (and is actually really good at). So Colton, I don't even know if you read these, but I seriously want you to kick some butt at your crew races that weekend. Row harder, sweat a bit more and beat that competition. And I think as I have grown up, I have realized just how much she has missed for my sake. I even feel bad that my parents are missing her races for my graduation. Obviously, they want to be here for this because it is college graduation but I can't help I am taking our parents away from something that is important to her.

I'm sorry this is so sappy.

I'm tired. I have stopped eating bread and drinking diet coke (I know what the actual eff, who am I?) in hopes of really getting my health back to where I want it. Ok, done with this weirdly long blogpost about my sister.

I still can't believe graduation is like soon. Like really soon. Is quarter life crisis a thing? Because I this is insane, I'm stressed but excited and confused all at the same time. I think once I find a job and really breathe after these weeks, I will be back to myself. Let's hope.

I am excited to graduate but I have never felt so stressed and tired in my life.

Hope your week is going better than mine!

Nail Varnish of the Week

Spring has sprung! Kind of. I was feeling the warm weather and my tan (LOL) so I went to my automatic "summer" color, white.

Whitttteeeee! Ohhh I feel so Hampton's. Do I look tanner already? I wish.

Thank God, Wet n Wild is $0.99 because hello. Yes, this is the second feature of the company. Thanks of making cheap nail varnish.

It is Wet n Wild's "French White Creme" and it went on pretty smooth but it did gain bubbles after some wear and it does change color fast, especially if you dye your hair (like me).

What is up with that pinky? Anyway, overall pretty happy but it does chip quite quick.

Stay classy.

Dancing for 24 Hours

For as long as I could remember, I wanted to complete a Dance Marathon; raise money for a good cause and see if I can handle being on my feet for 24 hours. On Feb 21st to the 22nd, I did just that.

That was me, one hour into dancing. Feeling good and feeling pumped. Each dancer had to raise a total of $150 and each moraler (a person who only danced for 8 hours) was asked to raise $125. I asked around, tweeted a few times and was somehow able to raise the needed amount. I had all these people cheering me, how could I not do this? It has always been a bucket list item for me and I was going to cross it off.

When we first got there, our team, the purple (and best) team, got to meet the little girl we were supporting with our dancing, Gracie. LOOK HOW ADORABLE SHE IS! She has had numerous surgeries on her cochlear implants and meeting her was just an honor in itself. When ever anything has to do with Children's Hospital, I can't help but think back all my family has gone through and how lucky we are. Thank you Gracie (and Gracie's mom) for sharing your story with us, I remembered it on hour 19 when I just felt like I couldn't go any further.

Left to Right: Me, Lauren and Amanda, Team Her Campus Cloggers (get it cuz we blog)

The whole journey was something I have never experienced before. Yes, you get tired, duh. Yes, you get hungry because the school gives you day old food that is cold and hard, duh. Yes, you lose feeling in your ENTIRE body, duh. But it something you can feel proud of. By the time it hit 7am the next morning, it weirdly felt as if I had slept for a full 8 hours and was ready to dance on. Even after the whole thing was over, mentally I wasn't tired but my eyelids would just not stay open! Hahaha Every time we had a meeting for the Dance-A-Thon, literally no one said, this will be the hardest 24 hours you will ever do or that it will take a week to recover. So I'm telling you now, it will be hard, you will have mini breakdowns during your dancing, the smile will fade but it will come back. You will live. 24, 48 hours of pain is nothing when I think back to all the children we were able to help due to our fundraising.

I also really got to see who was there for me during my roughest moments, I have no idea how Jess, our moraler for the last 8 hours, put up with me. I began shaking when my red bull filled body realized there was no sustainable food in me; I had no energy; and mostly, I didn't want to talk. God Bless her for putting up with me. I do have to admit that I did my best to stay in high spirits but it is really difficult when the only thing in your stomach is half a hard bagel with no cream cheese. I also had a number of friends stop by to help keep the dancing spirit alive. Big love to Alyssa for stopping by in the last hour to really help Amanda and I finish strong. As well Micah who not only danced with me for over an hour but went home (aka down the giant hill) to get me snacks and brought them back. I am forever grateful to him. Even though I am not apart of Amanda's sorority or any Greek life for that matter, they really took me in (especially her Big, Little and G-Little) making sure I was hydrated and that I wouldn't stop. Thank you for treating me as one of your own, DePhiE. This was a really challenging experience but with the help of a few people, I was able to really come out proud.

When we hit hour 24, they announced how much we had raised. Our goal was $150,000. We aren't Penn State's THON but it was a high goal for a dance marathon that mainly consisted of Greek life and has only been around for 10 years. In the end we raised, $153,067.99. All going towards the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. I have never felt more proud of myself and my school. It was absolutely insane going from traveling to NYC two weekends in a row, New York Fashion Week to this the following weekend. Some may say I'm insane but this year is turning out to be an amazing one. The only thing that would make it more amazing would be a job. (Fingers Crossed!)

Finally, I just wanted to thank this girl, Amanda. Not only has she been one of my closest friends in my college career but somehow we always manage to do crazy stuff together. From getting lost on buses, to going to weird art exhibits, or waking up or staying up for a certain event or even dancing for 24 hours straight, I know I can count on her to just say "Let's do it." If there is one thing a person needs in their life, it is an Amanda. Not only is she clearly beautiful and smart but she is always up for a challenge and she knows what she wants in life (even if she doesn't think so) and doesn't let anything stop her. She is also the only one crazy enough to do stuff I suggest. Without her, I don't think I would have been able to finish this. So thank you Amanda and I know you are probably reading this next to me since we are in Florida on Spring Break together but just know I love you and I'm honored to have you in my life.

Enough with the sappiness. If you ever get the chance to do a dance marathon, do it. It is an accomplishment no one can take from you and something you will be amazed with after it is all over. With that being said, I don't think I could ever do one again. Watch my vlog of it all going down, here.

Keep dancing!

XOXO -M.S.

P.S. If you ever do one, bring extra socks, another pair of sneakers and an extra sports bra! You'll thank me later.

Nail Varnish of the Week

This week I went for a bit of a toned down look (that I think I have done before??) since I just had neon yellow nails for the past two weeks. Grey + Light pink = V calm.

it really only took 3 coats of each color to look like this but because I am a weirdo, I did about 5.

The colors are Brucci Nail Hardener in "Alexandra's Hot Gray" and Wet n Wild's "Sugar Coat."  I have found these colors to hold a really strong and beautiful pigment, which is amazing.

Overall, super happy with the subtle nail look I went for.

Chipping was rare but because my nails are a bit weaker right now, a little chipping did occur about 2 days in.

Stay sassy.

What Am I Even Doing?

I'm gonna be straight up with you. This week has been weird. Every time I go away on a cool adventure, I tell myself, don't get weird. I got weird. I don't know. It is like there is this high you get on when you go do something cool or something you see yourself doing in the future. Then you come home, settle back into normal life and it just seems like a low. But it isn't a low. Normal is not a low. And if normal is a low for you, come talk to me. Everyone's normal should be normal. Is this even making sense?

I just wrote an article for Her Campus Pitt, an online magazine which I run the social media for but I write for as well; the article was about how I am in this weird excited/confused state of being an adult. I have never felt so stressed yet here I am in an unicorn onesie writing this blogpost at 1 am.  Life is just really weird right now. I will get through it, I will go back to normal. But for right now.  I am accepting this feeling I am having. Something really great can happen or something really bad can happen but I feel indifferent to it all. Why? Life just felt like it was passing by this week. I wasn't taking it all in like I am used to.

Maybe we all need a week or two or life just passing by and us not really caring to realize how awesome the other fifty or so weeks really are. We can't always be at our high and we sure as heck can't be at our low, normal has to happen at some points to help us realize our high and low.

I also feel like my friends think it is something against them. It almost never is. The amount of stress I put on myself is crazy but I love it. I love having something to do and doing my best at it. But even during these "weird weeks" the stress I put on myself doesn't seem to matter. Like I said, it is all just kind of going along. So friend reading this, I can't really be cheered up, I just need to snap out of it (and I will, don't worry).

These weird weeks are something I have come to accept and I think if I didn't accept them, I would question if the high and low weeks were worth it; they are almost always are. So if you are having a weird week, its okay. You don't always need to be changing the world, you can sit back and just let it pass for a bit. But don't let it pass for too long, life is way too cool for that ish to just fly by you.

I'm sorry about this weirdly personal, horribly written blogpost today (I technically didn't sleep yet so I count this as on time for a Wednesday blog post), like I said, this week has been so weird. Let's hope next week I will snap out of this and we can go back to giggling about water leaking in my roof or our favorite nail colors!

What Spin Class Is Actually Like

I participated in my first spin class this past Tuesday. Long story short, I still can't feel my butt. My roommate and I figured it out, it was because of the seats. For many asking what it is like to join a spin class and be like somewhat in shape, this is what it is like.

I was late for class and I immediately regretted it as the only bike open was dead center front row.

Our instructor played some pumping music which I was all kinds of down with.

After the first song. FIRST SONG! I was covered in sweat.

Like I couldn't even see. Thank god the bikes are stationary.

About 20 minutes into the workout, I can't even lie. I wanted to throw up my ice cream sandwich I had for lunch.

Once it hit 30 minutes, I knew I only had 25 minutes left.

The actual cycling wasn't as bad as I thought. It sucked don't get me wrong but when you want to look hot, your legs have to get a little hot in the process.

Then the teacher put on Beyonce and I somehow managed not to miss a word while feeling like I was in my own personal hell. But once again, I was all about it for the sake of chocolate ice cream and mac and cheese.

Last song came around and I couldn't tell if I wanted to cry or laugh but somehow I managed to giggle as I looked down and realized my entire shirt was a different color.

After we stretched and cleaned off the bikes, I felt hot? Not just temperature but my confidence shot up like 12 points (idk if thats a lot but thats how much better I felt about myself). It was definitely a mix of me remembering I just survived my first spin class and the fact that I just worked off that ice cream sandwich.

Either way, I can't wait until next Tuesday.

XOXO -M.S.

P.S. If you ever get the chance to hit up a spin class, do it.

It's the Final Countdown.

Alright, so this post was meant to go up on Wednesday but I can't tell a lie, Wednesday was crazy. It was the seniors' Pitt 100 days. Meaning, I have (had) 100 days until graduation. Meaning, 100 days until I was meant to be free. 100 days to find a job. 100 days to find a place to live. 100 days to enjoy being this close to my friends. 100 days. 100.

Talk about stress. I even have a countdown next to my desk to remind myself that I only have, well writing this, 96 days. Wow.

Granted there are some really amazing things happening in my life. I work so hard to make sure there is always something I am working towards. Sitting still is not something I can just deal with. Which is probably why I decided to post twice a week on my YouTube channel and this blog twice a week. I can't handle not doing something. #Workaholic

I learned a lot about myself as well over these years. I've realized I like people but really only people that are willing to handle my crazy work schedule I put on myself. I also learned that I am kind of a neat person (not neat as in cool but neat as in my room is clean). Now looking back at this I laugh, my room at home is a hot mess but I think as I came to living in an apartment and hosting parties, I like people to think I have it all together. So, I am sorry roommates for always folding the blankets and fixing the pillows. God bless anyone who wants to be my roommate in the future.

So, yes, I have learned a load about myself in college. And it scares me to know I only have 100, well 96 days, to discover myself more. Here is to the next 100 days. Let's hope I go out on a high note and with a smile on my face (happy tears included.)

Want to see what I am up to in the next 100 days, subscribe to my YouTube channel and follow this blog.

See you next week!

Nail Varnish of the Week

For my birthday, I received so many nail varnishes! Like loads, I can't wait to try them all out. Anyway, one of my good friends, Amanda, gave me a matching set of nail colors that she thought would look good together. I decided to try them out this week to let you know.

I can't tell a lie, I am not a patient nail varnish dryer so there may be a few starched but the color is so amazing!

They were Maybelline's line called Color Show. The colors go on super smooth and if you wait the allotted time, they would stay that actual smooth (whoops)!

The base color is called "Home Sweet Chrome" (amazing name by the way) and the sparkly top is called "Gleaming Graphite."

So Bam! There they are, you know I am a fan of dark nails and this was a wonderful change for my nail beds. They have to chip horribly after 5 days so I am a fan!

Stay Fab! See you Wednesday!

Nail Varnish of the Week (Frozen Edition)

Seeing as it is the holiday season, I decided to get in the spirit with some holiday type nails. I didn't feel like the classic red and green so I went for a more wintery look using blue and silver sparkles.

My ring finger was actually painted grey to keep the background a bit different and in the silver family.

Sometimes I spurge a bit and buy some Essie colors while there is a sale because lets be real. The colors are amazing and seem to hold up to their cost.

The grey color I used on my ring fingers was just a basic grey I picked up by Brucci.

The Essie color I used was "Rock The Boat" and the Brucci's Nail Hardener color used was "Alexandra's Hot Gray" and it is certainly hot.

The silver sparkle used mainly on my ring finger and scattered on my other digits was a simple Forever 21 color in "Glitterati."

Overall, I was quite happy with my nails and they lasted about the standard 5 days. The sparkles make any nail color chip faster. If you are looking for the perfect Frozen inspired nails, these are it!

Stay Fab!

Handling Finals Stress

Seeing as I have been through 7 rounds of college (uni) finals, I figured I could share how I handle the stress of intense test taking. Believe me, you don't need to be in uni or college to be stressed so feel free to steal some of these idea to keep yourself calm.

1) Listen to "Four." I swear this album is so chill and wonderful to listen to when you need a breather.

2) Grab a quick coffee/hot chocolate/tea. I love McDonalds Caramel Lattes (quite the calorie killer but its delicious and hey calories don't count during finals!)

3) Cry a bit. Seriously, cry. It gets all your emotions and tiredness out in one simple tear filled couple of minutes.

4) If crying isn't your thannggg, laugh. Whenever I need a laugh, I head to Jimmy Fallon's YouTube Channel or Ellen Degeneres' YouTube Channel.

5) Bake something. I pretty much always want chocolate so I decided to opt for some chocolate chip cookies this time around.

6) Stand in the shower for like 25 minutes. It is such a stress reliever and its a great way to relax. If you have a bath, opt for that but I have a small small small shower so I just stand there.

7) Queue your posts on Tumblr. Once you hit a certain number queued, log off and ignore your Tumblr for the next week. Believe me, I love Tumblr as much as the next person but somedays, you gotta queue and log out.

8) Paint your nails/ do a facial mask. Basically, Treat Yo Self. I used to never paint my nails but I started feeling more put together and more organized in a way? I don't know how to explain but when you see that person with their nails painted and think "Wow, they have their life together." They may not but they sure look that way.

8) Put your work aside and just enjoy your time with your friends or with your self. Don't ever be ashamed of hanging with yourself. You are your own best friend.

To everyone finishing up their semester. I wish you the best of luck and don't forget….

XOXO -M.S.

Chill Saturday Night In

College is awesome. A time to go out, meet people, hit up the bars but somedays, you just need a relaxing night in. And that is just what I did this past Saturday. If you ever want a relaxing night in, just check out this blogpost for some ideas!

My skin has been acting up a lot lately as I have been working out more and eating healthier (my body is in complete shock to be truthful) so I decided to have a makeup free night and treat myself a bit. I first started with a Facial Clay Mask in Avocado and Oatmeal.

Put it on a damp face, wait of for it to dry and harden, then wash off with warm water. Pat dry.

These were all the products I used during the night on my face. The Freeman's Facial Clay Mask Avocado and Oatmeal Mask. After my face was pat dried, I put my SeaRX Birchsap Moisturizing Cream, which I received in my November Ipsy bag and I love! Throughout the night, if my skin felt a bit dry, I applied my All Day Moisture Lotion, in the CVS brand, but it is just like the Olay lotion. To keep those lips moist all night, I used my Wet n Wild Juicy Lip Balm. My hair always loves to get in my face on relaxing nights in, so I tied it back with a simple scrunch!

Since giving up soda, I have gotten back on my teeth whitening regiment aka putting these strips on my teeth for 30 minutes once a day. The Crest 3D Whitestrips with Advanced Seal are a tad expensive but these are the best I found that are worth the money!

After taking care of my skin and teeth, I decided to do a bit of baking. These were so easy to make! Each packet of Betty Crocker's Chocolate Chip Muffin Mix make about 6 muffins and costs around $1.50 so I bought two packets and went to work.

In a large mixing bowl, I put both packets in and since each packet called for 1/2 cup of water, I put in 1 cup of water and mixed! Yummmmy.

After greasing up the pan, I filled up each up about halfway and popped them in oven at 350F for 20 minutes.

Of course, while they were baking, the ever important BuzzFeed quizzes took over. So much fun on a relaxing night in.

20 minutes and bam, the delicious muffins were done and looking delicious.

Before settling in for the night, I made a cuppa which of course I use Lipton Black Tea, a bit of Domino Sugar and Skim Milk.

That is the end of my relaxing night in! Some facials, moisturizing, whitening, baking muffins, tea all happened and it all ended with a marathon of Gossip Girl, starting with the Season 1 Episode 1. I hope you enjoyed this bit different of a blogpost. It was certainly a lovely night in, as much as I love going out and hanging with friends, sometimes a cozy night in on a snowy fall day is all you need.

I also did my nails, well my roommate did my nails, so be sure to follow my blog to see this week's Nail Varnish of the Week!

XOXO -M.S.
